Peter Gabriel - Biko (live) - WOMAD 2009, Charlton Park

Peter Gabriel and the band (Tony Levin, Melanie Gabriel, David Rhodes, Ged Lynch, Angie Pollock and Richard Evans) perform Biko live at the OPen Air Stage, WOMAD 2009, Charlton Park on Saturday 25th July 2009. Gabriel wrote thie song about South African anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko who died in police custody in 1977, and dedicated this track on the night to murdered human rights activist Natalia Estemirova who was brutally killed earlier this month. Estemirova worked with Russian human rights organization, as well as Gabriels own Witness organization, which empowers people to transform personal stories of abuse into powerful tools for justice, promoting public engagement and policy change. Gabriel hopes to raise £100,000 for Witness which encourages people to use video and online technology to expose human rights violations in their communities.
