always thought you hooked the black cable going to the dead car to the engine block, NOT the battery.... he could make it real easy and say these 2 steps: 1. good bettery positve to bad battery positive, 2. good battery negative to bad car engine block

In case you don't happened to have jumper cables, can you get the good battery out of a car to use it in a car that had a dead battery to start it? (Pardon my bad English)

Two safety hazards here... You should connect both red jumper cables to first. If you connect both the red and the black and then you accidentally touch the ends of the cables together, it will spark. You should never connect the negative cable directly to a dead battery because it could explode. The negative cable should be connected to a ground (such as the engine block).
