I saw this BNSF Auto Train leaving the Topeka, Ks. station heading South, but I had to drive across town to drop my Fiance and my Mother at the Dr.'s office. I had to make up time through town, and still it was ahead of me. So...I kicked in the turbo a little on '75 South, (once we tapped the 145 mark) and I caught the train in Carbondale, Ks. The lead locomotive was BNSF #725 still in the old Santa Fe "Warbonnet" livery, and trailing was TFM #1658. This auto train had a nice variety of cars....THANKS FOR WATCHING!...Doc n' Kelly

  • Dang ,that turn was on a pretty high angle. It looked like the autoracks were going to tip over. 5/5!

  • Hi,

This BNSF mainline handles 2 daily Amtrak trains running track speed on this curve. Without the "superelevation" of the curves, they'd lose a lot of equipment...and lives. Looks funny, though!....THANKS!...Doc

  • Awesome vid! Do you know where this train originated? Unless it originated in Topeka or Lawrence, I'm surprised it's not on the Transcon line.

  • Hi,

I'm reasonably sure that this train originated closer to Chicago. These low # "Warbonnets" seem to appear around the windy city quite often. I was amazed to catch it. THANKS!...Doc

  • Trains have always fascinated me, and especially going through small towns such as this one (Carbondale). I once had a friend who lived near the railroad tracks and she would see the trains going by.

  • Why?

  • nice catch on that. BNSF has been doing a lot of reroutes these days. sure must be lots of train work on the emporia sub. i live at Emporia so i hear trains coming or going to the Topeka sub.

  • Great vid Doc and congradulations. but don't try to kill yourself over a train!

  • I don't know for sure either but I'd agree with Doc, Most of the Topeka Subs through trains are Reroutes from the transcon (infact everything except Amtrak and 4 coal trains) I think that's how it is anyways.

  • Great Video Doc!! Nice catch there!! I agree with nssd70m2, that did look awfully wierd!!
