The Ken Burns Effect in 3D: Miami Fire Rescue Pics

The Ken Burns technique is a popular name for a type of pan-and-scan effect used in video production from a still image. Lately I've seen a new style of "the Ken Burns" effect used on many History Channel Documentaries (and TNT promos) which allows the picture to move in 3-D space, thus giving it a 3-D feel. In order to make this work, the picture must be dismantled into separate layers in Photoshop, and then imported into After Effects as a PSD file. The process is painstakingly slow. Took me 2 days to do this. All this was created with just the flat image itself.

Common terms are "2.5D effect", "Pan and Scan", and "The 'Kid Stays in the Picture' Effect".

Is there an official name for this effect (not just Ken Burns) because I can't seem to find the really helpful photoshop tutorial on it that I saw a few days ago....

@joejumps4fun I agree. Try googling: 3d pan and zoom with After Effects. I just called it that because he makes these effects famous
