Georgian Dublin - Coal Hole Covers...
Coal was delivered to Georgian Houses via a coal hole in the paving at the front of the house. The houses themselves had storage areas that generally extended underneath the footpath, and sometimes further into the street. Many of the cast iron covers have been worn smooth by circa 200 years of footsteps.
