The global economic downturn has also hit India and about 600,000 Indian workers lost their jobs in 2008.

Construction is one of the sectors badly hit.

Dungharam left his village in the Rajasthan province, hoping to find work in Delhi. But as he arrived, the recession had hit and cranes in the once booming Delhi suburbs were at a standstill.

  • On the news, everything is rosy in India. India is booming. You see Indian investors injecting money in economies like Mauritius. Their own people are starving and nothing is being done. Thomas Malthus had predicted that one day, we will get to a point where there will not be enough resources for everyone. It's happening. I'm planning not to have kids. The world is not good enough for them.

  • Thats a matter of concern for you indians who says shining india...

  • I wonder what God is doing right now, while all this suffering is happening.
