Hi Judy, didn't know where to post this question. I want to make knitted leggings for children here in Mexico, who are thin. I've been knitting fingerless mittens casting on 32 stitches and knitting pretty tightly. The result seems to fit most children. For leggings, I was planning to cast on 34 stitches to start and knit/pearl for a rib about 3 inches long, then garter stitch to the end, then some ribbing at the top. But even on skinny children, thighs are bigger than ankles. See Pt 2.

Thanks so much! I made an entire afghan changing colors every 4 rows and cut every time. I hated weaving in the ends. This will be really helpful! If you are using 3 colors changing every 4 rows, can you carry all 3 up the side like that or do you need to cut?

@ClassyShortCircuit
you can certainly carry the yarns up the sides. if you don't like the way it looks you can always knit or crochet a row edging.

PART 2 I can experiment with how many stitiches I might increase by for the thigh, but I just wanted to see if you agree that I should start the increase at the point I start the thigh ribbing (or above the knee, anyway). Hope you understand this. Couldn't find anyone knitting leggings in YouTube. Thanks, Lorena

I think you should experiment then whatever looks best is the way to go. Above the knee sounds right to me. Good luck and what you're doing is so nice.
