Just finished this banjo which has a beautiful spalted walnut bowl hand turned by Ron Thompson.

This banjo was ordered by Bob Gernandt, whose wife, Allison, plays clawhammer banjo. Bob is a professional luthier in Bryson City (http://www.gernandt.com ), who has helped me so many times and given me so much information that this banjo is considered a "trade" for his time and efforts (I was shocked and honored that he even wanted one of my instruments at all).

  • :D love it!

  • Thanks Bruno.

Are you still living the pura vida?

  • Your playing has definitely turned a corner, Jeff. That was quite the sweet little tune. Care to share the name of it?

Very nice work on the banjo as well- interesting that the skin head surrounds the neck, can you elaborate on that?

  • Thanks man. Again, I would never admit to how many takes it took to get that, but I am getting better (I haven't been playing clawhammer for a full year quite yet).

The skin around the neck is 100% decorative. It was a lot more effort to do it that way and I might not ever do it again. But it did turn out nice.

  • Sounds divine. Good job.

  • Awesome creation! I wish I had one! Nice use of the bloodwood!

  • You know what you could call these? Vegetarian Banjos.

  • Woa! That's some fine pickin' and a sweet little banjo you've got there. Thanks for sharing it.

  • Double Damn! I'm blown away with the beauty of this piece and the right brain thinking that spawned it. The double is for the playing. I double what Shukhrahn said about turning a corner. Great job Jeff!
