In early 1960's rural Alabama, young Lewellen (Dakota Fanning) lives with her stern, religious grandmother, Grammie (Piper Laurie), but spends most of her time with her abusive father, whom she calls Daddy (David Morse), in his dilapidated shack. Lewellen is deeply talented and finds comfort and safety, as well as a place to put her hurt and rage, in the music of Elvis Presley, even though Charles (Afemo Omilami), the wise groundskeeper of the mansion down the road, tries to convince her that "there is more to fill out that emptiness with than just Elvis." After Lewellen's father is struck by lightning, he forgets his abusive ways and is kind to her, however, having lost most of his memory he isn't a suitable parent. When Elvis Presley comes to town for a concert, Lewellen is desperate to go, but has no money for a ticket. Her closest friend, Buddy (Cody Hanford), tricks Lewellen into dancing and singing like Elvis for Wooden's Boy (Christoph Sanders) in exchange for tickets he has to the concert. During the impersonation, Wooden's Boy rapes Lewellen, sending her into a spiral of depression and self-destruction. Upon overhearing Buddy and Wooden's Boy talking about Lewellen's condition, Charles goes to her and teaches her to sing the blues to channel her tragedy into something positive. After finally finding happiness, Lewellen leaves her father and goes to live with the Stranger Lady (Robin Wright Penn), whom (unbeknownst to Lewellen) is actually her aunt.

  • this is a sad fucking movie :( i was really hoping for a happy ending but even the end music is depressing.... fuck this I'm sticking to disney movies from now on

  • I don't actually find the ending sad, I'm jsut left with a bit of an unfinished feeling, but I kind of expected that.

Dakota Fanning is such an amazing actress especially for her age here. So much talent... it's inspiring :)

Thank you so much for uploading.

  • @RubiVonFuckinggood As much as we want Lewellen to be avenged at the end of the movie, is that really realistic? Life is cruel and cruel people can get away with horrible things. The best we can do is just try to get on with our lives and forgive and forget. That is what is what I got from the last half hour of this movie. Maybe if she had her mother's help she could testify in court, though.

  • @RubiVonFuckinggood she was throwing up because the betrayal of her best friend made her feel physically sick.

And she knew that snake was going to bite her dad, she always said she would kill her dad one day.. So I guess she figured she'd let it bite him. He's probably better off anyway. And now her grandma has no one. Suck shit haha!

  • wtf??? why Lewellen's dad had to be bitten by a snake? what's that suppose to mean?

where's the revenge to the rapist? this movie need to have part two. I'll write the script if needed.

And finally, why is she throwing up? is that suppose to mean that dude got her pregnant?

  • @LivTylerr

You can still get pregnant without having your period.

  • @confessa

You are right, but she was throwing up. That's a sign that you are. It may not ALWAYS be though.

  • I think its because, in the start she said to the boy that she was gonna kill her father one day. And I guess this was the day .

  • Yeah...where is the revenge? Come ON. And why does the dad get nailed? I had to rewind 4 times to make sure I saw right! It's the grandmother I wanted to get bit! haha. THAT would have been revenge...well, that and the milkman getting nailed by the rattler too..

  • Please upload part 8, I don't know what happen :(

  • thanks for uploading

  • @LivTylerr I was expecting Grammie and her shotgun to blast Wooden's boy off the face of the earth. If she hadn't pulled the trigger, I would have.
