Another Dividend Increase From The Insurance Sector

Insurance stocks have been fertile ground for dividend hunters recently as a spate of companies have announced increased payouts. Bermuda-based Maiden Holdings (Nasdaq: MHLD) continued the trend on Tuesday by announcing it will boost its quarterly distribution by 8% to 6.5 cents a share. The new dividend will be paid on January 15, 2010 to shareholders of record on January 4.

Maiden Holdings provides reinsurance services to property and casualty insurers in the U.S. The increase is Maiden Holdings' second since it began paying a dividend in the second quarter of 2008. The original payout was 5 cents a share per quarter.

Maiden Holdings, Ltd. (Maiden Holdings) is a Bermuda-based holding company organized to provide reinsurance solutions, products and services to United States and European insurance companies. The Company provides reinsurance business solutions for insurance companies to deliver and market their products and services. The Company has two operating segments: Reinsurance — AmTrust Quota Share and Reinsurance — Other. Reinsurance — AmTrust Quota Share segment consists of the business ceded to it pursuant to its Master Agreement with AmTrust. Reinsurance — Other segment consists of a portfolio of predominantly property and casualty reinsurance business focusing on regional and specialty property and casualty insurance companies located in the United States and Europe.
