A quick view of how to run two instances of skype at the same time on a Mac. The key is to run the second one as a different user account, but without switching entirely to that other account.

The 'su' command lets you become another user in the terminal session, so you 'su into' another user, then run skype from there.

The actual skype program is hiding inside the skype.app folder at
/Applications/Skype.app/Contents/MacOS/Skype

If you add the & character at the end of the command, it will run it in the background, allowing the terminal to do other things.

Ctrl-c will kill the program from the terminal.

Have fun, and keep in mind that the settings for the second copy belong to that other user account, and it has no idea what you may have set up in the first one.

  • when i says password i cant type anything

  • @NYR199494 Yes you can, it just doesn't show you anything during a password. Try it anyway.

  • bash-3.2$ /Application/Skype.app/Contents/

    bash: /Application/Skype.app/Contents/: No such file or directory

    bash-3.2$

    What I need to do?? please, help!)

  • @IgorShkarin You need the command 'cd' to change the directory.

    $ cd /Applications/Skype.app/Contents/MacOS

    Try using the tab key when you start typing the directory names. it auto-completes the long words based on what is obvious from what you type.

    cd /App[tab] fills in /Applications. Do that at every level after the slash.
