i'm doing a research about piezoelectricity and i would like to present the same experience as yours to a jury so please can you tell me where i can find the pzt material ?
Actually they are christmas lights. A ignighter from a lighter or grill will only produce Milli volts witch cannot produce enough energy to floresent on the otherside you would need a transfomer and ballast to light a floresent tube.
the lights are florescent tubes with really high impedance, probably in the Gohm range, so it really doesn't take much current to ionize the gas in the tubes.

Why only use smaller piezo crystals, why not larger? to get more electricity? and what does current depend on?

Quartz is a material and PZT another, PZT stands for Lead Zirconate Titanate. Quartz is basicaly SiO2 (purified, crystalised sand)
