Unfortunately, I live in a small town, and there are not such services offered anywhere within a hundred miles. Where I live, there is a choice of contemporary Christian music, or hymns that have been re-written in gender-neutral language and the harmonist setting of the music destroyed.

You should come to the Orthodox Church in order to encounter God the Holy Trinity, not for the mere beauty and vanity of the hymns.

Reply to mishakol129: I fully agree that it is God, not the beauty of the music, that we should be in love with. Encountering God the Holy Trinity is the most important event one can have on this earth. The "beauty and vanity of the hymns" as you phrase it, is a product of faith, not the cause of it, or the basis for it. Still, until you have experienced such things as a "clown mass" or mediocre pop music in what is intended to be divine worship, it may be hard to understand me. I apologize.

You're fine, I can understand your frustration with clown masses and protestant pop music. I was just talking about myself. I have had problems where I would idolize the music instead of the theological truth in it. In Orthodoxy, we can be mistaken by the beauty of the church and start worshiping it instead of the God the Fathers of it intended us to worship.

Its not the Churches fault its our own, because we have hearts that are not perceptive of what The Church actually is.
