Bournemouth's airline Palmair has unveiled the latest member of its team, an £8m Boeing 737-500 named The Spirit of Peter Bath.
The 126seat aircraft, which has been purchased from British Airways, is faster, more fuel efficient and can fly further than the tour operators previous aircraft.
It was officially launched and named on Tuesday (May 12) in a special ceremony at Bournemouth Airport by Mrs Elizabeth Bath, the wife of Palmair founder Peter Bath who died in 2006.
The aircraft also bears the registration G-PJPJ after the nickname PJ by which Mr Bath was affectionately known.
"This is just the aircraft my father would have loved to see flying for Palmair," said Bath Travels Joint Managing Director, Stephen Bath. "He would have been immensely proud."
Palmairs Managing Director, David Skillicorn, added: "This is a major investment by Palmair especially at a difficult time for the aviation industry.
"It shows that we mean business as far as our own future is concerned. Weve been offering holidays from Bournemouth for over 50 years and we fully intend to be here in another fifty."
Renowned for its reliability, simplicity and low maintenance and operating costs, the Boeing 737 is the most popular and successful commercial airliner ever built.
The aircraft will be operated with Palmairs flying partners Astraeus Airlines and maintained by European Aviation at Bournemouth Airport.
