This is a short advocacy piece about the nationwide effort to stop the anti-choice Stupak-Pitts amendment. This legislation was added to the House of Representatives health care bill. If passed, it would ban women from using their health insurance for abortion services. For more information on how to fight this legislation, visit http://www.OneVoiceforChoice.com. Produced by Lyn Goldfarb in association with Ramblin' Man Films. For more in this series on health care reform, visit http://www.RamblinManFilms.org.

  • Thanks for your comment kweer58. Unfortunately I don't know if you watched the piece all the way through, because if you did, you would know that what Stupak-Pitts will do is prevent women from purchasing abortion services through their health insurance plans, instead having to pay out of pocket. Period. That includes plans not "subsidized" through the government, as the exchanges are supposed to do. It's barbaric and regressive.

  • Under the Stupak Amendment, women who receive federal subsidies (public money) will be prohibited from using that public money to pay for insurance policies that cover abortion. The amendment does not prevent private plans from offering abortion services, and it does not prohibit women from purchasing abortion coverage with their own money. It specifically states that even those who receive the public money can purchase a supplemental policy with private money to cover elective abortion.

  • Source it.

  • From Planned Parenthood: "It also prohibits private health insurance plans from offering through the exchange a plan that includes abortion coverage to both subsidized and unsubsidized individuals. Thus, if a plan wants to offer coverage in the exchange to both groups of individuals, it would have to offer two different plans: one with abortion coverage for women without subsidies and one without abortion coverage for women with subsidies." Hence the danger to low-income women.

  • Cafe- I've never been so enraged by such extreme lies. More appauling is the use of propaganda tools"Coathanger & Knitting needle"! Absurd left wing radical tactics used to terrorize those without motivation or intellect to read Stupak-Pitts amendment. Instead they blindly follow & believe these lying maniacs who,at the same time, r laughing in their faces for their ignorance &stupidity."All we must do is wave a coathanger in an audience &we'll have a slam dunk vote for tax funded abortions"!

  • @polarice827Absolutely, it is all a lie! Pro-aborts know it, they just don't care.Obviously they want to get more money to support their deadly, selfish, cowardly, horrifying cause. Why would they say otherwise. The truth is that they could care less about "women's rights"(as they like to refer it to) they just want money and they are salivating for it, even if they lie to the American people,or kill more than 50 million children since Roe v. Wade. They don't care about anything but themselves.

  • Abortion is (plainly and simply put) MURDER. I certainly don't want my hard earned money to go to kill unborn children! I am a woman too, but I will not help pay for someone's child to be killed so that they will have their selfish and cowardly "choice".

  • Stop hiding behind words like that, "choice", "my body", "women's rights" that is such uneducated nonsense! People and organizations like Planned Parenthood simply want money, they just convince themselves and their supporters that it's for women! Right. What about an unborn little girl's rights?

As a pro-choice advocate I am outraged by the extreme measures taken by radical liberals to convince women our right to choose is in jeopardy. Not the case! Its all about using tax dollars to fund abortion. How can we expect pro-life advocates to accept this? Its their tax dollars contributing to something they are opposed to? How pro-choice is that?

How pro-choice is to make drs perform "abortion on demand" when it defies the oath they take?

  • @RamblinManFilms

kweer58 is correct. Read the actual Stupak Amendment as opposed to watching a liberal biased video. This amendment was introduced into the Public Option of HC reform. It only prohibits the use of tax dollars to fund abortions for welfare receipients & prohibits the use of tax dollars to 'Subsidize" employer sponsored health insurance plans. Period. There is nothing included to make it more difficult for women to excercise pro-choice rights. This is an outrageous LIE !
