The ruling from federal judge Vaughn Walker overturning Proposition 8 came down in the middle our our show last Thursday. It really was a suspenseful and amazing experience, trying to get the news out and then figure out what the ruling meant, and I've edited down that key hour or so to little over 8 minutes here.

  • Was in the car between job sites when I heard this. I was estatic, and sat in the parking lot for 15 minutes when I arrived just to continue hearing your coverage. Great job, Mike :)

By the way, anyone know what the name of the song is at 5:15?

  • @auntiesanity

I don't think he would have been nominated if he supported gay marriage, but it's impossible to know for sure.

But, you keep complaining that he's been silent.

What exactly do you want him to do? He could say that he supports gay marriage tomorrow and it wouldn't do anything. He's not the King.

  • @bb6f44 So now gay people have the legal right to die together, but not to live together. That is more of an insult than a concession. Are you aware of your president's executive powers? How do you think Kennedy was able to undermine the race laws?

  • @bearchewtoy75 If Obama had supported gay marriage he would still have been elected. It was a choice between a rock and a no place.

  • @auntiesanity Agreed with what bearchewtoy said, and also:

Obama HAS undoubtedly been our best ally in the oval office since...ever. He quietly signed a directive earlier this year requiring hospitals to allow gays to visit their ailing partners, via the Dept. of Health and Human Services.

Blame the prevailing dialogue/opinions in this country, not Obama.

  • What do you want him to do? He can't make Prop 8 go away.

If he had said that he was for gay marriage in the campaign, we'd probably have a different President. The man has to get re-elected and if he alienates voters, we'll be stuck with President Palin!

I'd love it if he said, "Let the gays get married!" But it wouldn't do any good.

  • And still Obama is silent. Will he actually ever do ANYTHING for the gay community?

  • It was last Wednesday. I arrived at our church picnic shortly before 6 Wed. evening. My pastor said, "Did you hear the news?" I smiled and said, "Yes, I did!"

Great reporting, Michelangelo. It was exciting to listen in.
