Inside out double knitting in Garter & stockinette stitch to create an inside out tube. Use a smaller needle for double knitting because there is more play in your stitches using this technique. Normally I would knit this yarn with size 6 needles, but in double knitting I knit with size 2; I also knit pretty loose.

  • Hi I really love that bear and i want to make one like that.. can you tell me where i can get the patern (like you done it.. because your beau is beautiful)

  • @Sebetjo24 The pattern is modified from the original. A quick Google search gave me this result free-knitting-pattern[DOT]com/content/double-knit-bear-free-pattern. I only wrote my version of the original in circular knitting form, but not double knit. My bear btw is a modified version of the Mother Bear Project pattern.

You'll have to replace the [DOT] with an actual period when you put it your address bar.

  • @Sebetjo24 I gathered up some of my notes and put them together in PDF form. I have a link to the PDF on my blog added 10/5/2010. You can find my blog at DetroitKnitter.blogspot.com

  • are you able to show this using your right hand? I don't knit using my left hand... thanks. I would just like to see how you would hold the yarn...

  • @autbrat Mmm, I don't think this method can be applied to english style knitting since the yarn comes from the right rather than the left. I think the purls would not be manageable.

  • The yarn is worsted weight. The pattern is based on "The Mother Bear" project which knits the bears flat then seems them.

  • Thanks you very much!!

  • @MarleneD1216 Ok Thanks!

Can i know where i can find your version in circular knitting please!!

    I Would really appreciate!

  • Hello Marlene, love the way you teach knitting. What gauge yarn do u use for the bear? Do u have a pattern available?

    Thank You!! Jam

  • I would recommend either casting on normally then adding a second strand after the cast on however you like. OR, you can try out the alternating 2 color cast on method which I also have a video of. This sample shows a provisional cast on (brown yarn) and is my first attempt to create round feet but for all the other double knit bears I've used the alternating 2 color cast on... only both strands are the same color unlike in the video. Find the video on my playlist channel MarleneD1216.
