  • I find it funny because in Anthology The Beatles said that they were depressed because they were only backing Sheridan on this recording, but nowadays it says The Beatles (with Tony Sheridan)

Thank you for checking out this rather obscure Beatles on MGM 45!!, I never knew they did any productions for them until I found this 45, and I like the audio engineering that Deutsche Grammophon - Polydor affiliated label from Germany did on this record!!...They must have used there 3 track Studer Revox mastering deck on this production?

  • @chkjns - I relly can spell 'their's' if I proof first!

  • @fromthesidelines - I inherited this very record a few years after it was issued from neighbor girls who had 'outgrown' it! Kaempfert's bassist, Ladi Geisler, had to loan the Beatles his amp for the session when there's wasn't up to the task! Nice bit of history, you & Lloyd!

  • ...and after The Beatles became an international phenomenon (and their Capitol releases in the U.S. literally flew out of record shops), MGM got the rights to reissue four of Tony Sheridan's 1961 recordings with them in January '64....only now, they got top billing OVER Sheridan. And this was somewhat of a success on the charts as well, but nowhere near the newer "Top 5" Capitol discs...

  • In 1960, while The Beatles were playing in Hamburg, they became friends with Tony Sheridan, an "Elvis" soundalike. They eventually backed him, as "The Beat Brothers", on several recordings (produced by Bert Kaempfert) for Polydor in June 1961. This one was issued in Germany that October; legend has it that Brian Epstein, working in his family's NEMS record store in Liverpool, was intrigued when someone asked for a copy of it. He listened to it, sought the group backing Sheridan...
