I'm not British, but I think having monarchy implies that the country has a long and continuous sense of nation, deeply rooted culture, intricate rituals and cultural practices. All of these take time. New countries can't afford to have monarchy without appearing superficial and fake. It's like having a family country house -- expensive to keep, and sometimes troublesome. But it shows your heritage; it shows you're not just from some tribe and that you're not just new money. I think.

"long and continuous sense of nation" What does this mean?

"deeply rooted culture" yes the idea that because you speak in a certain way you are superior to other people who speak in a different way.

"intricate rituals" I don't think this affects the average British person's happiness on a day to day basis.

"cultural practices" Yes the class system whereby your accent and background defines who you are.

Is this important to happiness? Does not a system whereby you are given less respect and looked down on just because of your accent or background outweigh this in importance?

What the fuck? I see the British Royal family is kind of reality royalty entertainment with multiple functions in a modern sense. It's THE BRITISH ATTRACTION and big business which makes your country unique and bringing in the cash from tourism and sells of your goods. Without it England will be far less interesting a country is you ask me. Try to get rid of them and see if you guys will be better off... Prepare for the worse...

I don't see less people coming to Britain if it were a republic . If this was the case Paris would not get 3 times as many tourists as London. It is common fallacy that the Royals bring in any more tourism. It is actually insulting for you to say that the only good thing about our country is a family of sub-intelligent inbred Germans.

    See, republic(dot)org(dot)uk/policy/answerback(dot)htm

the monarchy is not the ONLY good thing... but the monarchy is a HUGE industry for you. americans don't have that history & it's new for us - while in england almost a week was spent doing things monarchy-related. we also saw other parts of england that were absolutely beautiful & did a few things not monarchy-related, but if you ask visitors what they did while in england, almost every one will list off palaces, castles, etc., things we don't have here. the monarchy leaves, tourism suffers.

The palaces would still be there if they left. In fact you would have greater access to the ones already occupied. So I think our tourism industry would do just fine. We would still have the history if we became a republic.

we republicans will not need to do much, Charles will kill off the monarchy! He's already breaking his remit and using his connections to influence others. He's getting too involved, at least his mother kept her head down.

It's not so much about ones inheritance I think but, more so a matter of justice.

For you information... the "Royal Family" has been completely German by blood for the last 300 years. That is NOT British history in the least. British history comes from Brits themselves.

Well, that'll have the republicans creaming their pants over this little 'exposee'.Seems the PoW is well suited to monarchy given that his family down the generations have,in the main, been philandering,scandal-ridden,in-bred nut-jobs.I mean, even the queen truly believes she was actually 'divinely chosen' to be monarch, rather than see herself for what she is,an accident of birth.Charles is probably just a frustrated old man desperate for his 'slice of the action' before it's too late.

Members of the Royal family are excepted from the provisions of the Marriage Act 1949, and their marriages in England and Wales MUST be performed by Anglican clergy. There would be no obstacle to The Prince of Wales remarrying in Scotland as did his sister The Princess Royal where the Royal Family are not excepted from the provisions of the Scottish Marriage legislation. CHARLES ‘MARRIAGE’ IS ILLEGAL BECAUSE HE REMARRIED IN ENGLAND AND HE WAS AWARE OF IT WHEN HE ‘MARRIED’ THE VILE CAMILLA WHORE

It's also a common fallacy that Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace would be just as desirable a tourist attraction as Versailles (and Paris, though those figures your citing are usually referring to Versailles, since visitors to Paris have nothing to do with any royal residences) without a royal family. Versailles is visited because it is perhaps the most important and influential building ever constructed. Without the Windsors, Windsor Castle would receive 1/6 as many visitors.

the monarchy has more power than people think they do, they want to portray themselves as figureheads, but if you look into it you will find that's not true. i was surprised to hear what the powers that be are trying to demonize him with, i'm sure he's a complete jerk, but it was nice to hear him speak out against GMO foods and a corrupt brainwashing education system. these people are saying his beliefs aren't based in scientific reality, seems they aren't in reality!!

If Britain has nothing else to offer apart from the Windsors, then God help this country! These islands would deserve to be consumed by the N. Atlantic, N. Sea, English Channel and Irish Sea as they would have bugger all to offer.

I actually think Britain is worth more than than most royalists are prepared to give it credit for. Simply saying the royals are good for tourism turns Britain into a backward looking theme park.

A Fine example of context over content, showing that when something is presented with enough mood effecting music and journalistic promting; people will believe ANYTHING!

We are being conditioned to respond to types of documentary / tabloid provocation.

If Prince Charles had used his influence to develop an 80% homeopathic cure for all cancer, the average viewer of this "documentary" would be convinced that he was trying to murder that other 20%

How would YOU appear under similar scrutiny !?
