Read the details of the Cabinet Mission of 1946, which proposed that India be made a Confederation and thus keeping it united.

This was the last chance to keep India united.

Jinnah and his Muslim League accepted the Cabinet Mission's proposal.

But it were the Leaders of the Indian National Congress who refused to accept this proposal and it was because of them them that this last chance of preventing a participation was lost.
