This oldie was originally written during the depression (1931) by Yip Harburg, who was later blacklisted during the McCathy era. This Spadecaller video updates its relevance to the poor and disenfranchised prevalent in our nation today.

  • @GregH1961 Post-election (11/2010) depression, poor, poor us. It's surreal. Everyone thinks Sen. Joe McCarthy was a bad guy NOW."Commie witch hunts." But look, Michelle Bachmann from MN was re-elected to the House of Reps. She, who wants to investigate particular members of Congress - meaning those not of her beliefs- for "UnAmerican activities." I'm disallusioned, but not hopeless..........yet.

  • @tuadolcefanciulla You got it right there my friend..... I would dearly love to see Bush and Cheney brought before the world court. Our country is being stolen by greed and the endless pursuit of money. If people could only step back for a moment and consider what has real value.... Money or..... a sunset, our children, love, the earth, friendship, health..the list goes on and on and yet we are taught to value money.

Sorry to go off like this... your comment moved me.

  • brilliant. That jam is life changing. Oldie that very much describes today's economic climate.

  • Soon time for my Seasonal fave from your uploads... but this just demanded a viewing!!!

  • Very well done, good musical work.. and nice vocals.. combined with the right images.

  • Y'all should check out Boz Scagg's rendition. It's on his classic album, self-titled... I think it was released 1969 and may have been his debut album. His rendition is the best I have ever heard of this song. The cover portrait is by Elaine Mays. Peace. Love is the Answer.

  • @TheFriendlyPig I'm too good for you. Pearls before swine.

  • @tuadolcefanciulla shutup communist

  • Timely.? Well, I would say this is "timeless." Thank you for posting this.

  • Thank you for this video.

I will be putting it up on my blogspot.

After this dog and pony show by both parties on the debt ceiling.

    There is only one way.

    DOWN.

The attack on the poor and the working class continues.

It is only called a struggle, if we fight back.

  • GOP? Tea Party? The Barbarians are at the gates
