  • For lake, or any other fishing, can you not put heavy line on an open reel? What reel can you put heavy line on? What about closed ones?

  • @smosherx ...nice to hear from you again and to recap, Spinning reels are designed for lighter line (14 lb test or less) where as bait casting reels are designed for heavier line. However, if using braided line, then you can certainly go heavier on your spinning reel.

If using a close faced spin/cast reel, it is best to use lighter line. Thanks again for writing in.

  • dose the cold do anything to the line i have 10lb line and i live in northern ontario and it gets cold here and my shed isent heated so i was just wondering

  • @spuddlebutt You will not have any problems with your line in the cold weather. Sometimes, you will get some ice building up on it due to water freezing, but your line will be o.k.

Thanks for writing in & good luck on the water.

  • @thundermistlures thanks

  • @Vulcan328 Yes, you're right, 10 lb. line is weaker than 25 lb. Actually what this means is that 10 lb. line should be able to hold up to a 10 lb. weight (in air) & theoretically break at any weight above 10 lbs. Thanks & good fishing!

  • @Vulcan328 With 25lb mono, it would be better to use a bait casting reel...you can use it on the spinning reel, but it may be be very "coily" and hard to handle. With spinning reels, it best to use lighter mono line (15 lbs and under) unless you go with braided line.

You can use heavy braided line as it is much more forgiving and will not "coil" off on you. If you go this route, just be sure to tie on a mono or fluorocarbon leader.

Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water.

  • @andyart11 Sorry but we havn't tried this spoon. Thanks!

  • Did you people ever try/use the Johnson Silver Minnow Weedless Spoon? What did you think of it?
