Sonata published 1742. Composer: Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788).

Movements 1-2, recorded during a church service on 25 October 2009. Bradley Lehman, piano (Yamaha).

Demonstration of the "Bach/Lehman 1722" unequal temperament; see http://www.larips.com for further details. Its recipe: F-C-G-D-A-E 1/6 comma; E-B-F#-C# pure; C#-G#-D#-A# 1/12 comma.

The composition requires 17 different notes: Bbb, Fb, Cb, Gb, Db, Ab, Eb, Bb, F, C, G, D, A, E, B, F#, C#.

  • The first time that I have enjoyed listening to a Yamaha. The well-tempered tuning brings the piano to life. Expressive, but without the intonation sounding "bumpy". Yamahas sound very bland and lifeless when tuned to ET. This is clearly the answer.

    why? there's a lot of SACRED music for the Church services. Would you play a Bach Cantata in a disco pub?
