BUddha was no less than a prophet he was a choosen one to bring message of truth to mankind. His destiny was written by God and he was to become the enlightened one and all this was already decided. Even if some say Buddha was a saint his teachings have even then showed to be most succsesful than prophethood based faiths.

China is an excellent example.
