Here's the song that beat out Let It Be for Best Song of the Year in the Grammy awards for 1970. In my opinion, this song describes our Savior far more than it could any other individual, however sincere or dedicated they may be to the task. Paul Simon was clearly divinely inspired when he wrote these words. I hope my rendition will minister to someone.

When you're weary,
Feeling small,
When tears are in your eyes,
I will dry them all.
Im on your side, oh,
When times get rough,
And friends just cant be found,
Like a bridge over troubled water,
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water,
I will lay me down.

When you're down and out,
When you're on the street,
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you.
I'll take your part, oh,
When darkness comes
And pain is all around,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.

Sail on silver girl;
Sail on by.
Your time has come to shine.
All your dreams are on their way.
See how they shine? Oh,
If you need a friend,
Im sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.

  • Very nice! :-)

It is a difficult song to sing, for me anyway but you did it so well.

  • Thank you. As a matter of fact, I learned to sing this song before my voice changed. I could really sing it well then! It's never been quite as easy since!

  • Hello!

I like it sooo much! I need a friend like you, are you sailing right behind? :-)

    Hello from Russia,

    Alex

  • Well, I'm not the Friend that sticks closer than a brother and is the only One who could fulfill the promises in this song, that's Jesus, but I'd be glad to be your friend!

  • Do you think this song is about Him?

  • I don't know if that's what Paul Simon intended, but that's the only way I can interpret it.

  • Love this song and your version, Jack...and of course I love your picking and that Taylor. I'm a Gibson man. It's all good.

This song will preach, there are so many spiritual implications in it. Great job my friend on this not only classic but timeless song. Bless you and your wife for all you do to edify others.
