@73553harris ya thanks, this definity helps, i was more than likly going to use the melamine, but now i kknow not to, thanks. i was also looking into using real hardwood like maple or pine. my dad has a good friend that owns a lumber store. and thats were i was going to buy my matirials from, but i can also buy a few boards of maple that are already been jointed, plained and are all perfect pices of 6 feet x 6inches. all i gota do is glue them together. buts its a bit more pricey

@CemetaryGatesML i've blown alot of money on tanks that fell apart a month later and it sucks. the ones i build now last so i just stick with what works.

@CemetaryGatesML it will look good if you use an ab grade plywood and since you have a steel frame you could probably go w/ 1/2" then just stain or finish it the way you want it on the outside. a laminate would work for an outside finish just not on the inside. i would go with the pond rubber on the inside for sure. the solid black looks real good with some plastic plants hung up on the inside. all mine look real clean. hope this helps........

@73553harris alright, well il take ur word for the vinyl.
i just dont want to leave it looking ugly. i want it to look pro.

@CemetaryGatesML laminate might start to peel with the heat and humidity thats basically what melamine is and it doesnt last long. i use 3/4 ply and line it like i said and use bypass glass doors on the front then paint the outside blk with 3" vents on the sides. it looks professional and i only spend about 400 dollars. also the lights are inclosed inside it makes it way easier to heat and keep the humidity in and keeps the power bill down. screen tops lose alot of heat when you have a big cage.

@73553harris ya i was thinking about somthing like that, i was gonna use Non-toxic
caulking or silicone. the wood i am planing to use is plywood with a laminated vinyl top that looks like real wood. like you would find in cheap kitchens or laminate hardwood flooring.
and yes :) i am a guitarist and Pantera is one of my favorit bands, Cemetary Gates is my favorit song, and ML is the model of guitar Dimbag darrel used.
the Dean ML is also one of my favorit guitars.

@CemetaryGatesML 105 is a good temp for basking. one thing that might help with your new cage is to line it with pond rubber. just cut them to fit and glue them down with pond seam sealer and silicone the edges. i do this with all my big tanks and it works great. its just as cheap as vinyl but works better. this will keep the humidity in and keep the wood from rotting. dont use melemine its crap and wont hold up i've tried it. btw i was wonderin is your screen name from the pantera song?

@73553harris the tanks current settup has 1 10.0 UV light and a 75watt tight beam that hits 105F on his basking spot, the hot side of the tank is an avrage of 85F-90F and the cold side is at 75F. he also has a heat pad inside his hide.
as for a larger cage i now have a steel frame shelf that is 6x3x2...all i got to do is but some nice wood pannels on the sides, and a lexan front, and a lexan top with holes cut out and patched with chicken wire for the lights
yo can u make an update and a care vid for the tegu
