The white guitar is a Yamaha SG 2000 made in 1978... The Tobacco burst is a Gibson Les Paul R9 made in 2006.

  • That's not an original SG2000, or if it is, it's been refinished. They were never white (only Sg3000's came in white and this definitely isn't a 3000). No way is the trem original either.

The trem I'm sure will fuck up an authentic SG2000 sound but it still pisses over the Gibson.

  • Hi Bufon. Thanks for your comment. This is an original SG2000 made specially for Dave Mason. I have owned 3 SG2000's. two cherrybursts and this white one. I can tell you, this one has a tone to it that no other guitar has... extremely woody and bluesy, couldn't catch it on video though.

By far, the guitar with more character. (I own 8 vintage Les Pauls and still have one SG2000 cherryburst...)

  • lol i was wasnt listenin to the vid just readin comments and i couldnt tell where the 2 axes changed..

  • Yes, they're very similar. But if you move the video back and forth you'll hear a slight difference. Being the Yamaha a little bit more trebly on the edge, just a bit more agressive. While the Gibson is little more harmonious.

  • Hello! I like better Yamaha's fuzzier character. Also it is sharper in a good(wilder) way.

Do you know how good is SG 1000 to compare against SG 2000 ??

    All the best!!

  • Hi, I think they are very similar (1000-2000). The difference is basilcally the brass they put under the bridge of the SG2000. To get more sustain. Having said that, it is believed that Yamaha sg's made between 1976-1979 were better sounding. Still, before you buy, try several guitars. I understand your concern. So, I suggest you take a portable recorder with you to the shop and record each guitar you try with the same setting. When at home, listen to it and choose. Sound & Easy to play = good.

  • Gibson is so overrated. Yamaha and Tokai makes much better guitars than any USA guitar-manufacturer.

Gibson is just a name.. They make money with their name just like Nike or Adidas etc. crappy bullshit companies.

Tokai motto: Quality Before Quantity... Gibson does it vice versa nowadays.

  • @Jossezinho i have an 1981 sg 1000 that kills les pauls including customs which i have

  • Unfortunately the Gibson sounds better. We all want the underdog to take it... but it doesn't.

  • Both a great guitars, with their own character. Yahama SG guitar quality is underestimated by most payers. Same goes for Japanse made Ibanez AR300

  • @amdelux1 Like I said before it's a matter of what pickup's you want to use because these guitar's are very equal in build quality, what shape do you like better.

  • @heparuissi Yeah well said, Just bog brands GIB's are Yamaha are fine quality instrumemts. Tokais too .

  • @Jossezinho By looking at your left leg, you enjoyed playing both guitars.. But it seems that you enjoyed playing with the Les Paul more than the other because your excitement is continuous and constant. And for the others, Gibson, particularly the Les Pauls, are indeed overpriced and overated. But Gibson does stand for its name. Lets say you remove the logo on its headstock. You will find it even a better guitar than the others after you played it.

  • i choose neither paul reed smiths r the way to go
