  • Yep it is a good book. Lots to learn from it and I did not find it hard to follow or understand the concepts. I have not noticed any problems with flutters on VHF/UHF radio gear due to the generator blades but have picked up a slight noise like alternator whine on HF at times. The NB cuts it out straight away so is no problem.

Keeps the shack charged up with a BP panel up there too. :) If you can, make one. It is fun and very rewarding.

  • Try 'How To Build A Wind Turbine' from Hugh Piggott. I found his June 2005 Edition very inspiring and it really got me hooked. My generator was partly designed on his examples, however I engineered much of it after reading his book and seeking other ideas from the internet.

His book shows you how to make everything from the blades, to the stator (electrical)

    Good luck.

  • Nice turbine. How much is the tail offset for furling, and at what speed does it furl? Sturdy looking tower.

  • Thanks Zenpi314. The hinge is 45 deg like many designs as a guide. I should have done more maths to work out rotor force vs tail weight. Next time. It starts furling at around 35mph (low for the mill). I since modified it to lock into position. The rotor & motor can handle 100mph winds without damage. Not that we get wind normally near that. I did not want to skimp on the tower. Considerable damage is likely if it falls. I had in mind a bigger turbine soon so designed to take an upgrade. :)

  • Wow, able to withstand 100mph. I would be scared out of my mind at that windspeed for my turbine. What props are you using?

  • TLG Tri-Nando Mini Might is the rotor from TLG Windpower.

I hope we never get 100mph winds here to be honest with you!

The way the weather is lately, I wanted everything very strong.

  • Hugh Piggot YA MAN The first time I heard that name I was on otherpower. com reading some good stuff from Dan Fink and Dan Bartman. Does the wind turbine cause flutters in your RF reception sometimes? nice rig by the way. KB5ETP Scotty B. The Muddmann

  • Tell me something, whats a good beginners guide to learn how to make one of these?

  • Terry makes some good blades from TGL, and they are super quiet too. Put those on an Air-X and you will think your deaf......Surprise!

  • you r a good mind boy keep it up

  • Thanks for the reply. Would you mind writing me directly please? I'm at mikemike1111"msn com
