Lyrics & Information

Taken from the various live studio sessions the original Thin Lizzy 3-Piece did during the 70/73 era. This one is a great recording with some words changed. It's also my personal favourite version of the song.

Lyrics :-

[Announcer Intro]

In the dismal darkness
I have sat and gazed amazed
At the blazing factories

Like a lonely man
Who stands on the seashore stand
I am afraid

As weary as I be
I try and seem at sea
To look so gay

Run boy run
In your skin
Look what the wind just blew in!

Many lovely ladies
I have felt touched
And I was not afraid

I took them out dancing
Moonlight romancing
And I was not afraid

Then somewhere from the north
This gal I knew just blew in
And I am afraid

Run boy run
In your skin
Look what the wind just blew in!

[Awesome solo]

Look out the way
For a girl so small
I couldn't love at all

I'm weary and I'm lonely
And I'm tired of being on my own yes
And I'm feeling so
Melancholy

And if you leave me now
I swear I'd never love another woman
Anyhow

Run boy run
In your skin
Look what the wind just blew in

Run you've got to run
In your skin
Look what the wind just blew in

[Excellent solo outro]

  • just amazing the strange rhythmic changes that all got lost in the post bell era. I wish there was an endless supply of old lizzy stuff on youtube, I almost get depressed when I hear a new song or version cause I know it is depleting the stock.

  • Damn, this rocks. It's one of my favorite up-tempo tunes on the debut album; "Return of the Farmer's Son" is the other. (If the "New Day" ep is included in the mix, I'd list "Old Moon Madness" too.) Eric Bell was just tearing it up here. This performance is pretty astounding.

  • This is real Rock, not like the over produced crap we get today.

  • I've often wondered what became of Gayle (the gal from the north), Phil's girlfriend at the time and inspiration for the song. I vividly remember him pointing to the door from the stage when she arrived and calling out the Dublin expressing "look what the wind just blew in" Still my favorite Lizzy track, from fellow Crumliner, Ellen x

  • epic,

  • Wow this version of this song, is crazy I love it!

Eric Bell is so underrated as well as Thin Lizzy. its a real shame

  • so energetic

  • Bell era was the best for, twose other two guitarist combined didn't amke half of Eric....

  • Nah, alevkelley.. Still riddem changes thruout the period of 1973-1977 circa. Then came the metal era which I alas realize Phil could stay strong against. Even after 77 ya can hear bursts of this like in Black Rose.

  • This is an absolute gem. Typical pre Whisky In The Jar Lizzy. Much more "frantic" than the album version and EXACTLY what they were like live at that time .....the kind of stuff that had you pinned to the back wall with the bass and drums thumping you in the chest. Oh how I miss those days.
