How I import from my JVC everio?

I'm trying to just get my taped footage in from a Canon camcorder - I guess that's dinosaur stuff, huh?
Oh, well - I still have my old laptop and I-movie 6, the easiest, most intuitive importing and editing software ever. Should have saved my money instead of buying this big, over-blown Final Cut Pro nightmare.
