OutRun, 1996 (Saturn)

After so many years, we finally get an arcade-perfect translation of this 1986 classic. This is the US Saturn Sega Ages version published by WD/Spaz and unfortunately lacks some features (arranged soundtrack & arcade modes) found only in the Japanese release.

@Naomi0111 So, if Outrun was made FOR MAME, then you would be correct. But it's not made for MAME any more than Saturn Outrun is made for Yabause. Calling Sega Saturn version of Outrun "the Yabause version" would be the same as what you did. It cannot be 'arcade perfect', because that would imply it tries to mimic arcades as closely as possible - it doesn't have to, because it already IS Arcade. It doesn't need to be 'arcade perfect', it's already the best version there is,others try to mimic IT

@Naomi0111 It's not really "mame version", as MAME is only an emulator, not a game format. It stands for "Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator". The game you refer to is the ARCADE version (so it's not "arcade PERFECT", but it's just "perfect ARCADE" (: ), which MAME then tries to let function like it would with real Arcade hardware. Of course we would need more accurate definition of what "arcade perfect" even means, people toss it around so carelessly that it doesn't soon mean anything.

outrun 2 was basically just a dressed up outrun and it was great.

this game is from another time. a time when games like this were seen as "state of the art". nowadays you need much more to impress people. just taking the outrun concept and dressing it in some pretty graphics wouldn't be enough.

Wow, I'm impressed! This made me wish I'd bought the Saturn back in the day. Truly a fantastic conversion and the music is even better than the original. When I see things like this, I wish Sega would return to hardware market.

there was a version of Outrun for Saturn? Well I'll be jiggered. I loved this game for Master System - pretty sure I only finished it a couple of times however.

Shit was so cash.
