Its actually kind of sad :'(

It is a scrap yard. Usable parts of the ships are salvaged and recycled, the rest is scrapped for iron. The iron is still quite valuable and will be molten and reused.
Unfortunately, the process of shipbreaking in 3rd world countries brings great health risks to the workers and many chemicals leak into the environment.

Looks like she had a hard life.

instead of scrapping them, the ships could always be donated for a good cause to sea shephard or something

This is soooo depressing.....

@mastersduhgree most rust is superficial or it would literally be falling abpart. yes there is a surplus of naval vessels at all time. even better drag up the wrecks and take those for salvage. there are about 1000 shipwrecks per year around the world. most probable you would have to pay some amount of money even for something headed for the bone yard then take the functioning equipment and sell it .(maybe even recondition it some before selling it). not hard to do oxyacetylene works too.

@circusboy90210 But we would want to definately use plasma tho. Also a large generator would be neccessary. If you look around U tube for vids showing shipwrecks theres quite a few of them.Makes me think that there are possible vessels to aquire for little or nothing around the world. And possibly govornment entities willing to give away as some appear to be a nuissance and eyesore.Im wondering about the rust factor with this type of opportunity?? A freebee may have plenty and some maybe too rusty?

@circusboy90210 Ive seen(heard) ships scrapped offshore. They can be scrapped right to the waterline if done correctly .Thats where the use of the barge comes in with a crane. Most larger scrap buyers are located in a port(water) facility as a lot of iron goes immediately overseas. It would be a learning experience for all involved.I scrapped several combines out one summer and learned how to go about it as i went. The last one i cut up only took 3 days using a torch,oxy/propane.Cheaper than acetyl

@mastersduhgree I know where to get equpiment and trucks. something like the 10k ton project would take about $90k to operate equiupment fuel food and men wise. would have to do 2 to really make a killing. yes plasma cutters are the way. and find some way to resell the dangerous stuff. asbestos etc. everything has a market even if you give it away for the price of the consumer coming to get it.

@circusboy90210 Yes indeed.Where,,,,,? If a guy could make payments to the ship owner then he could scrap the vessel out during that time and payfor it with the scrap iron.Good flat sheets of iron bring $200 a ton. A ton of scrap iron in sheet metal form i think would only be a peice of metal 8x8x1 inch thick. A plasma cutter would make quick quick work of a ship.A small barge like a 1000 tonner would hold $200,000 dollars worth of metal. There has to be 10,000 ton in a vessel? 2 million?
