THE CITY DARK chronicles the disappearance of darkness. The film follows filmmaker (and amateur astronomer) Ian Cheney, who moves to New York City from Maine and discovers an urban sky almost completely devoid of stars. Posing a deceptively simple question—"What do we lose, when we lose the night?"—the film leads viewers on a quest to understand how light pollution affects people and the planet. In six chapters weaving together cutting-edge science with personal, meditative sequences reflecting on the human relationship to the sky, THE CITY DARK shines new light on the meaning of the dark.

  • @CSATexan As an amature astronomer and conservative I support sensible regulations to keep our skies dark. You will find many others like me.

  • I live in LA and I never see anything xept the rare times I'm out in the desert or something, then and only then do I feel something special when I look up

  • @Chr0nixRH lmfao

  • this problem might apply to progressive countries, but there are some places which are in dire need of light. it's nice that consumerists are starting to realize what their problems are, but you can't really generalize things with films like these....

  • explosive diarrhea.

  • I am 100% sure that my quality of life improved when I moved to a mountain town where I could see stars by the billions after 18 years in Southern Cal where the sky is like a beige backdrop durning the day, and utterly light-polluted at night.

  • Anyone know what song it is in the background?

  • Well, I'm not a friggin species. Also, I can't see in the dark I don't have Night vision contacts or implants so, save your vision use light. More crystle sucking treehugger crap.

  • go fuck yourself al gore!

  • Lot of movie sucks.
