@LewisYounger16 I have an echo 2100 and takes much time and many times gets stuck . i also have a stihl trimmer and that has even more steps to go through to wind it up. there are certainly much better options out there. i know there are updated echo/stihl heads that you just feed in and turn but i dont have those.

Just bought a new Honda 4 stroke trimmer. The first time I used it, the bump feed head turned out to be a joke. The line kept retracting/breaking at the fixed point. Followed the mfg's instructions on how to re-spool the head which did not solve these issues. I then bought a feed type head (no line spool) but had line breakage again since it had a fixed point as well when edging around concrete. I replaced this with a pivotrim and no line breaks & little wear so far!

The main complaint that the Pivotrim is supposed to address is not really an issue. Rarely will line break off at the head, typically line needs advanced because it is worn down at the end or split after hitting an obstacle. Given the RPM's of a trimmer I would question the reduction of flex and wear on the line with a Pivotrim. If it was really absorbing the impact it would not be much use in cutting anything. A Shindaiwa Speed-Feed 375 trimmer head and quality line would be my choice.

The Pivotrim is a great product. My trimmer has become very powerful when I replaced its head with a Pivotrim. My trimmer can now trim and also edge like a hot knife slicing butter.
a quality bump feed is the best. heads like this one that use fixed pieces of line are a pain and really just add more frustration. Don't be fooled!

I understand your opinion, but would ask that you hold judgement on the PivoTrim until you have tried it. I was amazed the first time I used it - I couldn't beleive how long the lines lasted and they didn't break off.
However, in some applications (i.e. thin grass) a quality bump feed is still a good choice if wound properly.
