Skimming the cream off our raw Jersey milk from family milk cow, Gracie. She's improved her behavior since I made this video. :) Enjoy!

  • Yeah, I suppose it sounds mean. :) But it isn't. It is a way to manage our milk cow so that everyone gets milk and cream, people and calf included (though she is weaned completely now...).

  • superGoodjuju -- Because the calf didn't need as much as she was drinking, and also because Gracie won't let down her milk very well while nursing her calf resulting in her holding back the very creamiest milk. :)

  • Laurie - That's a great tip, thanks!

  • why don't you want Gracie to give more milk to her calf?

  • Where did you get the gallon sized jars?!

please email...jessicaikiehn at yahoo dot com

  • Sounds kind of mean to trick Gracie like that.

  • If I pasteurize the raw milk when I get it home will the cream still come to the top afterwards or should I skim the cream first??

  • Very useful, thanks!

  • I found that a turkey baster works well to get the cream too if one has a smaller necked bottle. My Jersey usually gives me a quart of cream with each gallon of milk. I love it!!!!!
