All Marines and Sailors when on a naval vessel and cross the equator must be initiated into King Neptune's domain. Although it is painful and a little humiliating, I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I was initiated in 1982. Semper Fi

  • I became a Shellback in Oct 16th 1982, Long 119E aboard the USS Belleau Wood LHA-3, I was he NCOIC of the LAAD Det with the 31st MAU. Even our ships Captain was a Wog. They stopped the whole armada including the Ogden. and then after a steel beach party it was on to Freemantle/Perth Australia, where there were hundreds on teenage beauties waiting on the docks for us.......Ohhhhrahhhhhh!

  • Been there done that several times. I'd rather be gettin whupped than doing the whuppin. It's a whole lot easier.

  • @petete21521 i was on the midway at that time also great ship great memories and be came a shell back that day also

  • I can explain it... Wog Day was a waste of time, completely stupid. Opt out while you can. The "ceremony" was just downright retarded and stupid. The biggest waste of my time.

  • Can't stop laughing remembering my initiation, 20 Nov 1982, USS Enterprise, I had just turned 19. I have my certificate proudly displayed in my living room along with my Blue Nose from 1991. 27 years of total service with Naval Aviation... Great memories!!! Priceless tradition. FLY NAVY!!

  • I became a Shell Back 27 Aug 1984! I was an HM3 Aboard the U.S.S. Mobile!
