  • Thanks for the upload, I'd always wondered how to poke pole a monkey-faced eel :)

  • You don't know me. But I am a friend of Elel Johnson's. I had heard about you and "poke polling" I have done this years ago, when I first moved to the Monterey Bay.

I need to do this again! Great video!!!!

    Thank you,

    Kirk

  • its usually easier if you just fish for them at the breakwaters by your harbor

  • They die hard in my freezer lol

  • I don't know about all that pole poking, I used a regular fishing pole and stood on top of the cliff. I didn't even get wet. But very good eating.

  • I caught a monkey face in the early eighties off the rocks at the South mooring of the Golden Gate Bridge. I was using light tackle and sardines. I guess I just got lucky as I'd never heard of the fish. It was very slippery and tough to hold but worth the catch. A delicious meal.

  • is there a specific season for these?
