You mentioned a few rednecks shooting turbins? Well, my neighborhood had one of the first instances of such a crime after 9/11. The guy never did anything to anyone except being a little cheap. However, in the larger context, we did pretty well. We didn't approach the 1930's or 1940's hysteria and put groups of people on trains to middle America. We weren't lynching Arabs in mass and we didn't build gas chambers and ovens to destroy the bodies. I think that's improvement considering history.

The way I see it, he was a two term Governor of the Largest State in the US. You may not agree with his policies, but you should at least allow some public reference to him. Hell, Andrew Jackson has more Native blood on his hands than anyone in recent memory, and even subverted the Supreme Court's check on the Executive Branch. That man now has his face on the $20 bill and has a major City named after him in Florida. Whatever Wilson did, he couldn't touch President Jackson by a long shot.

I'm a Latin with Jew blood, and I don't like hate crimes either. It's too subjective and very few times do I see it used in Black on white crimes. I also don't like it creates a special set of rules for certain groups of people. I once got jumped by Mexicans because they thought I was "white"( whatever white means, as I am Spanish) and I never heard a peep from authorities. In fact, I singled out because I called one of them a wetback, which was how they behaving. Somehow it was my fault?

I agree again. I can see how Chavez would be seen as a good guy trying to help out the screwed but I don't see why turn him into a demigod. On the other hand I do see why we woudl have a Regan Love fest. Regan kicks ass!! Chavez is not that love din Mexico only in theUS by the Mecha style crowd. One labor organizer in Mexico hated the guy. He told me Chavez was just a tool by the US government. Who knows. Conspracies aside I don't see why turn him into a god. Can we eat grapes now?

He sent a bunch of americans packing, actually I don;'t think luggage was allowed, pushed them into train cars and dumped them into mexico under the excuse he was getting rid of the brown scurge. I don;t know if it's self loathing to be a Republican, as I know quite a few Latino GOP voters. However, that doesn't mean I am conservative. I tend to be more of the libertarian side, like Goldwater. I loath the Religious right and the neo-cons. I think the party has drifted far to much to the Right and it's biting them in the ass now. I get called a commie lefty because I said the Bush should be impeached for the good of the nation.. Loyalty to the nation beats loyalty to a party.

yeah it is a cheap shot and shortcut. Even if say Pig WIlson had not been a racist ass hole, which of course he was, they would still bash him if he was not pro-welfare and pro-hippie crap. Pig Wilson started off as a good solid republican like Ronald Regan. Then we went the same route as most reps. Lacking any real selable platform he had to just use a scapegoat like illegal alliens.
