Restoring the tradition. From before World War II to the early 1990s, Manual High School symbolized basketball excellence in Denver. The Thunderbolts won 11 state championships -- the most in Colorado history -- and produced future college and NBA stars. But the DPS shut down the school three years ago; it reopened a year later with a freshman class. Now Manual is fielding a varsity basketball team for the first time since the shutdown.
