From the first cruise of the season last night. My friend's 73 Gremlin X with a 258 pulling out. First clip of our "hand made" side exhaust on the six cylinder. Soon it will have a 360v8.

  • Why does every 1 change his 258 torque monster for a V8 ???? just keep the 258, i rebuilded and tuned mine, it has lotsa more torque than most V8's and at a very low RPM.

  • @ThaRealGecko

The V8 makes 230hp/280tq with a stock rebuild with a cam. The 258 made 83hp and like 150ft/lbs. Not saying the 258 can't be made fast, but the AMC 360 pretty much bolted right in for nearly a 200hp increase instantly.

  • What muffler does he have? That sounds good. I came here to try to figure out what will make the 258 in my Gremlin sound better. I never thought about making my own side exit exhaust. thats pretty cool.

  • Cherrybomb.

  • i also have a 1973 AMC Gremlin, i was wondering where you friend finds all his parts. Does he have a cardomain???

  • Autozone has pretty much everything. What he couldn't get there he just got off Ebay or junkyards.

  • @FuelInjectionSucks @uhfnutbar1

    83hp and 150tq?? o.O ... holy shit!!!

    i own a Mexican '81 258, stock it made 170 gross (135 net) hp and 250 gross (215 net) torque... :S

i put 3k in it (100% rebuild, bigger intake, swapped carter to 2bbl motorcraft, trq cam, k&n, dual headers, x pipe, shaved/polished head (this made a HUGE difference), delco remi ignition, etc) and now it makes 220 whp and 300+ torque at 2000RPM... i was SHOCKED lol

BTW at car shows peeps will allways admire a clean inline 6 :D

  • @ThaRealGecko maybe then most V8 have low torque but AMC V8 are really strong when comes to torque .and thanks to Roger Penske Winning the 70/71 Trans Am sereas with amc and getting invald with amc the head change in 1970 (dogleg ) type all v8 360 and biger v8s where nice flowing head comparblie to after markit Bowtie head that flow 215cfm amc heads bone stock can flow 207 cfm , all way till last v8 in a jeep the head never change :) just intake to lower power. a 360 with cam heders intake 350hp

  • Beautiful gremlin.... Love the color too... -3

  • that one has the rare 5 mph rear bumper too!

  • I had a '73 with Levi's interior. Got trashed in a tornado!

  • @FuelInjectionSucks The 258 i have came with 150 HP and 240 TQ @ 1800 RPM stock, a V8 will never do it at such a low RPM, and the jeep 258 in later years came with 115 HP and 210 TQ @ 2200 RPM. Only with Headers, Electronic ignition, 2 BBL carb and a few upgrades my engine's torque reached more than 300 under 2400 RPM... Its impressive for such an engine, peeps think its a V8 while its the original 258.

  • I'll take this thing off your hands. How much is this beautiful specimen worth to you?

I'm serious by the way, hit me back.

  • I have a 73 Gremlin X that is good for parts only.the body is damaged on left top, and pretty poor looking as it sits. Can you tell me what I should get out of it if I sell it like this?
