Can the Qur'an be translated?!

This is my take on a very common argument on why the Qur'an must be read in Arabic to know his real meaning.

There is a fallacy in this rationale about translation of sacred text.

The fallacy is the following:
1) Languages are different
2) Books can be written in any languages
3) Since, words may have many meanings in their original languages
4) Then translation of a book to another language is not possible without sacrificing the original meaning.

We can conclude:
Hence, I have to conclude that due to the overwhelming reality of communication of knowledge (translation) in all forms of human knowledge from all known forms of language, including knowledge written in Koranic Arabic, makes translation of books , even sacred books, possible, precise, useful and a well known science. Translation is not perfect, but it is precise and useful, and does not sacrifices the general meaning of the original, meaning I don't have to know Arabic to see what the Qur'an really understand and the same goes for you and the Bible. The counter-argument is both logic and practical.

Then why is it that most Muslims propose that you cant really study Islam or the Qur'an unless you know Koranic Arabic? Knowledge is power, is a very common saying which applies. As long as you keep this fallacy as true, ONLY the ones who have TRUE understanding of Koranic Arabic can know and teach all the others that don't have the knowledge. Hence they have the power, exclusiveness and monopoly of the Knowledge of Allah and Islam. They are the only ones that REALLY know by way of their understanding of Koranic Arabic, making all others dependent on them, and obligated to obey them and follow what ever they say is the truth and the moral rule. Disobeying or questioning these "authorities that have full knowledge of Koranic Arabic" constitutes rebellion against Islam and Allah. Does this sound familiar? Feel free to comment and rate.

the quran can not be legitemetly translated. The only proper form is in arabic, any other translation is a mere attempt in trying to show the message in another language. I dont even need to watch the rest of your video to answer this one

LITERALLY, word by word equivalent. That one word in one language to another

single word in another. As ichoose has

word translations, it takes more than a dictionary to produce a reliable

translation. Reliable translations are available for the Quran.

@69pmac, Second you said "the quran is not for everyone", you are the first one to say this. I thought Islam was universal, but if the quran is not for everyone, then you have excluded all non-arabic speakers from knowing the true Islam, as the "quran is not for everyone". Or may I ask for whom is the Quran for, if as you say t is not for everyone? You are beginning to contradict yourself or the tenants of your religion to win an argument, be careful!

@thefot, all words have meaning, the meaning of words are abstrac or concrete things. that is the nature of languages, sounds that correlate to an abstrac or concrete thing. To say that translations are "the meaning of" points inevitably to the theological position. I personally think that the Quran can be completly translated with no major theological issue. the only thing that will be lost id the flow or poetic form that will only be arabic in nature. i have no objection to translations.

@69, You should talk to thefotfoundation, he is muslim and he say that that is not necessary. The fact that it can not be "legitimately" translated according to you, should worry you and all who think like you. It makes it an arabic thing, not truly universal, and incomprehensible to all other people. It makes it "legitimately" the religion of arabs of the six century...

Or do they say, He invented it, Then bring a Sura like it, and call [to your aid] anyone you can, besides God, if you speak the truth (10:37-38)

So here the challenge, even if you know Arabic, you cannot produce one and this challenge stands for the last 1450 years:

Say (Muhammad) If the whole mankind and Jinn (supernatural being) gathered together to produce the like there of this Quran, they could not produce the like thereof, eve if they backed up each other with help and support (17:88)

Here God is indirectly telling you to not just read but to reflect means you do everything to correctly understand it. Have they not reflected on this Qur'an? Surely if it were from other than God, they would find in it many a contradictions (4:48)
