A collection of photographs of British Wildflowers. In 2004 I was asked to contribute to a project in Durham, funded by GROUNDWORKS, where children were asked to observe and appreciate their local environment and some heathland that had been reclaimed from industrial/ mining use. I soon found out that, although there was a lot of open countryside in the area, the children thought that all of the plants were exactly the same and could not 'see' a difference in the structure or anatomy of the different wildflowers, shrubs and plants. After using the photographs we completed many 'quadrat' surveys and the children became enamoured with the Latin names for each of the plants.
Since that time I have taken photographs of wildflowers throughout the whole of Britain and I have used them in several other projects to get children to appreciate the bio diversity of their surroundings. The tune, Isabella, is for my mother.
