On Saturday, September 24th, NYS&W train BHX takes the Metro North equipment that was stranded in Port Jervis, NY on a ride over the NYS&W southern division enroute back to Hoboken so that it can stay in inspection compliance.
The equipment was stranded in Port Jervis, and cut off from the rest of the Metro North commuter rail line in Rockland and Orange counties NY, when Hurricane Irene catastrophically destroyed 14 miles of track between Harriman, NY and Sloatsburg, NY.
The equipment had to be moved due to federal regulations that require revenue use passenger equipment to be inspected every 30 days; otherwise it gets blue-carded and put out of service.
This rare chase lasted from Warwick, NY on the NS Hudson Secondary track to Midland Park, NY on the NYS&W Southern Divison. In this video, the train is seen passing the newly rehabbed grade crossing in McAfee (Vernon area), NJ - complete with brand new crossing signals, a new cantilever, electronic bells, and the addtion of gates.
More clips available on the newest DVD "4 Seasons on the Susquehanna", due out this winter.
it's about time they put gates up on rt 94! it was one of the busiest crossings in the country without proper gates.
nice shot!
