On Nov. 19, 2009, members of the Auburn Gresham community celebrated the opening of a new Aldi grocery store in the 7600 block of South Ashland Avenue. In this video, Carlos Nelson, executive director of the Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation, talks about the importance of this grocery store in what has been a "food desert," and discusses some of the other initiatives his corporation is working on to improve the South Side neighborhood.
