This documentary on How the Rowing 8 Works begins here with Part 1, The Bow seat. It sets out to explain the machinations of the sweep-oared rowing 8 and includes the Australian Women's 8 winning the Gold Medal at the World Rowing Championships in Gifu, Japan, in 2005 and includes the Final of the Women's 8 at Lake Nagambie, 2007, at the Australian Rowing Championships.

    Bow must be the technically superior (athlete) in the crew. Seven must have rowed as much as possible with stroke in a pair. In the middle - the engine room - you must have the strongest men."

  • In 1965, legendary Ratzeburg coach, Karl Adam said: "(The stroke)...is probably the biggest crook! The best way of choosing a stroke is simply by trying them. You can very soon decide who is best. There is no doubt that the (stroke) must have a sense of rhythm. He must also have the ability to influence the rest of the crew.
