In this video, I give a brief history of Linux and then examine reasons why Linux should be used in education rather than Windows or MacOS. This video was created with Linux, using free and open-source software. This video was created for the UBC MET program, ETEC 531.

  • Actually, your mincing words here. When we say linux we usually mean 'gnu/linux', thus 'linux' as we know it today started in the 80's with richard stallman, the linux kernel however started as you say. Although, it was not originally released 'freely', linus was eventually convinced to GPL the kernel. Even to this day, non-free codes exist in the linux kernel. Watch the video you copied for more info.

  • @rhl6856 Thanks for the clarification. This video is not really about the history of Linux, but rather its use in education. regardless, I'd rather it be accurate, so I'll add an annotation.

  • Great presentation. Thank you for this insight. I hope to convince my high school to use Linux and not submit to unnecessary costs of corporate software.

  • Nice job. Good use of relevant references, and Amen!
