@jimifriedman18 alternate picking comes easier as it's basically what guitarists do since day one but it's a lot harder to co-ordinate fast alternate picking than it is for fast sweeping. the motion of sweep picking is just so relaxed and easy compared to it.

@BloodReverence I don't know. I guess it's just all up to the player. Because for me I'm good at sweeps(my favorite technique) and alternate picking. If anything my worst skill is legato. But alternate picking came alot easier to me than sweeping.

@jimifriedman18 Cause it really isn't that hard. Alternate picking is WAY harder to do fast. Sweeping is only difficult when you first start out because it's a completely different feel. Once you have sweeping down though, it's more economical and easier to do than most other techniques.

Why does everyone hate on sweep picking? I mean seriously it's one of the hardest guitar techniques to perform(correctly) and most people just bash people who can do it. Am I missing something?

What are these pathetic comments about Dimebag? His style was completely different... different being the word. Are you all saying 'why didn't dimebag sound exactly like every other guitarist?' Your answer is because he was Dimebag, no-one else had that sound and no-one ever will. He played with the most genuine style I've ever heard. Dimebag had no music theory, which meant (as corny as it sounds) it all came from the heart. Music is about expression and he had his own way of doing it.

Once you get to the level both of these guys are/were at, those statements do not hold much validity because they can both play what comes to mind. I think people just get a boner to quickly over sweep picking. I'm sure if Dime wanted to, he could have. It is way easier than straight up alternate picking.
