only if your Wii doesn't have memory left.
SSBB lets you use 110 blocks (more or less) of your Wii memory to save replays, stages and screenshots (and 110 blocks is a lot of memory really).
If you mean "save" in general (like with any game's data) then the answer is the same. The Wii has its own memory, once its full, start using an SD card for extra memory.

how do you save online battles with the replay feature, please help?

if your match is 3 minutes or less, then you can press the "Z" button (on the GC controller, dunno about the others) to save your match and later watch it again in the replay option located in the vault.
