... very much at the 'economy' end of the market, but a very impressive Spirit considering the price.
There are many Spirits out there like this with the big Producers looking to give options to their 'Branded' bottles like Jim Beam and Chivas in order to maintain a bigger share of the total market.

    Whisky Review 192 + 121

  • Hi Ralfy. Me too I found Western Gold to taste just like Jim Beam, after you put it out. But my Western Gold bottle states that it contains E150a in it. As I remeber, artificial color is forbidden to be added in Jim Beam by law. So do you think WG is a European version of Jim Beam, branded with caramel while not bearing the same name?

  • @vigil12348

as far as I'm aware, ... any American spirit bottled outside of the USA can have colourant added. Not very consistant in my opinion.

  • Sorry to be a pest Ralfy, but I still don't get this. In this review (at 5.01) you say that bourbon must enter the cask at no more than 62.5%, yet the bourbons I mentioned are stronger than this when bottled. Where does the EXTRA alcohol come from? Am I missing something obvious here, or am I just a wee bit stupid?

  • @WhelkDoctor1

generally, bourbon enters the cask at 62.5%, ... but there are exceptions/climatic perogatives

Your best reply would come from the Producers themselves so you might e-mail them an enquiry through their web-site. ... good luck !

  • the scotch whiskey distillers need to take the USA 's example "no color added"

  • You can buy this in LIDL. germany for about six or seven bux for 70cl. Has coloring and from what the bottle says on the back. It's made in Germany.

  • Ralfy...I think this is a Beam whiskey,as well..But I don't think it's the standard White Label.I think it's probably the 3 year old Old Crow sold under a different name in Europe.Beam owns the name(they also own Old Grand Dad) because they bought all the old National Distiller brands after National went belly up back in the '80's.Old Crow is basically a 3 year old Jim Beam.By the way,it's a very good value bourbon.I'm thinking this is Old Crow for International export..

  • @rab631

Jim Beam Black is an extremely good value bourbon...

  • You should try Jim Beam Black label the notes in that are V good

  • I'm skint but I wouldn't bother with £10 bourbon especially if it's some Jim Beam derivative. My personal opinion is that Jim Beam is not very nice.

Would rather spend £17 on a bottle of Bulleit which is as good as it gets for cheap bourbon

  • Ralfy, you forgot to mention that a bourbon that has already been labeled Straight but is under 4 years old must have an age statement (i.e. bourbon between 2-4 years old must have it's age mentioned). This requirement is probably rarely invoked because the majority of bourbon producers simply age the bourbon to 4 years before bottling.
