A Canadian dairy farmer explains how he milks his cows in his tie-stall barn.

Transcript:

Tyler-In my barn each cow has her own stall with bedding, free access to feed and water in her manger. Cows are milked twice a day in their stall alongside their herd mates. When I milk a cow, I wash and sanitize the udder before attaching the milking unit, and once this is completed the milking machine is attached to all four teats of the cow's udder. A hose runs from the milking machine to the stainless steel pipeline located over the cow's head. The pipeline runs the length of the barn and is connected to the big bulk tank in the milk house. The milk is quickly cooled in the bulk tank and kept there until the milk truck picks it up. Afterwards she can be let out to pasture and nice weather.

  • i know dairy farmers, and trust me..they arent rich. they live a modest, simple life. but they definitely spend over 12 hours a day out in the barn feeding, cleaning and milking. get up at 5am...milk...come in 3 hours later..eat breakfast...go out again and do more chores..come back in 4 hrs later...eat lunch..go out do more chores and milk again...come back in 7-8pm and eat dinner...relax and go to bed. same routine the next day..the work 7 days a week, 365 a year!!!

  • It is a shame that people have wrecked the video with stupid comments. The man has nice cows with nice udders and nice milking operation that is very comfortable for the cows.

  • there is no way the cows are turned out in nice weather. I can just image trying to do that at work- ok time for 2nd milking lets round up 300 head boys!

  • Yay Jerseys!!

  • If any family dairy cow owners want to go on a vacation and have no one to take care of their dairy cows they can contact me through my Google Channel to ask me to visit their place at my own expense to stay at their place to feed and milk their cows. I can do it for up to two weeks. They do not have to pay me any thing for my service.

  • @OneiroscopeB: um if you were paying attention you'd know that at the end of the video he states the cow is turned out in nice weather.
